Portland Providence Medical Center at 4805 NE Glisan St, Portland, OR 97213 maintains a community art gallery space, curated by Seth Nehil. The gallery is along the corridor between the main atrium lobby, information check-in area, and the Franz Cancer Center.
I am honored that some 20 or so of my collages and prints will be on display there from April 18 through June 27, 2026. Since this is a hospital, and not an art gallery, there will be no opening party, beverages served, or any of the usual amenities one might expect at an art exhibit. However the exhibition space is in a wide, uncrowded corridor, the art is displayed appealingly, and it is a spacious and inviting area to spend a little time looking at the art.
The collages are typically made with material from card stock, file folders, art paper, construction paper, and other common crafting paper and materials, plus glue or paste. The elements of each collage are cut, sculpted, carved, and shaped primarily using a crafting knife and sometimes scissors.
All of the collages and prints are available for purchase. Although the collages are more expensive, full size Giclee print reproductions are available. There are several prints in the exhibit, and they demonstrate the remarkable quality of the Giclee printing process. It is often difficult, at first inspection, to tell whether you are looking at an original collage or a print, so successfully does the Giclee printing process capture the depth, shadow, and three-dimensionality of the collage original. All of the prints are made in collaboration with Brian Carter, an amazing graphic artist and illustrator. Carter owns and operates Pearl Printing, one of the nation’s most reputable fine art reproduction companies, specializing in archival digital printing on canvas and fine art papers, using archival inks.
