Chuck Moshontz is a collage artist living in Portland, Oregon. Chuck comes to collage, paper sculpting, and cut paper art after 25 years as a radio news broadcaster and a 25-year career as a psychotherapist. His art path began 10 years ago at Phil Sylvester’s Drawing Studio on SE Division, and awakened a creative streak and the quest to make beautiful marks on paper. Since childhood, he was fascinated with mid century design, advertising art, poster art, comic book art, and a century of New Yorker drawing artists. As an adult, he fell in love with the work of Matisse, Picasso, Mondrian, Klee, the impressionists, the expressionists, and the more “modern” works of Ellsworth Kelly, Frank Stella, Richard Deibenkorn, David Hockney and others, whose influences found their way into a developing style. One day, after a series of charcoal and pastel portraits that used slabs of color, he made a semi-interesting collage self portrait. The rest, as they say, is mystery.
